We get asked the question on a practically daily basis. When is best to get senior pictures? The answer is a little complicated, but here it goes. You have to ask yourself a few things
#1 When would I like to have my photos available. Are you looking to have them delivered by graduation, by Christmas, by the school year? If you are going the professional photographer route (I can give you 1000 reasons why I suggest you do, but if you spend $ on Starbucks but not on pro photos, I will never win the argument. I love me some Starbucks, but if my house were burning down… I’m going to grab the professional taken and developed photo of my great grandfather… not the delicious coffee that has long ago gone to my thighs. But, I digress. 😉 ) . Anywhoooo… the average photographer books months in advance and prints give or take 4 weeks out, depending on your order. Unless you are looking for fall photos, late spring early summer is our favorite given timing. Plus, if you want to get in at the end of the summer or early fall… I would call a year in advance, not the week of. Senior photographers don’t sleep much during the summer months, so for the love… a little notice is ideal.
#2 What are your seasons like? We are in Cleveland, so who the heck knows. We have a winter VIP session that has been waiting for a gorgeous snow fall, but so far… nada. At least nothing worthy of filming. I like to send clients to our blog or even Pinterest to get ideas for what their session will feel like. We can make pretty much anything happen and the simplest be stunning.
#3 How busy will I be senior year? The answer is slammed. I can guarantee you, time will get away from you. That is literally the phrase I hear the most. Not figuratively… literally. Get them done early. Enjoy the experience. It’s THE ONE and ONLY TIME you will be in photos like this by yourself. Enjoy it and make it your own. Your Great- Grandchildren might be adoring them one day, or they might be adoring a nice frappuccino ;). And if you want to be a trend setter and get published, think about joining the model team. So when is it best to book your senior pictures? The answer is now.

A little about Daniel’s VIP session in Sandusky, Ohio: Have you ever driven down Cedar Point Rd (the lake entrance) back by those gorgeous condos and wondered what it was like back there? Daniel’s parents lived here as a young couple. They brought Daniel home from the hospital to this very condo. So when they told us, they wanted to do his session around the water, on the beach, or maybe even on a boat in Sandusky, we were pretty pumped. The land over there is so peaceful, it’s hard to believe it’s so close to the world’s largest amusement park. We took the boat across the way to the most gorgeous unoccupied beach with the whitest sand I’ve every seen on Lake Erie. We spent some time following Daniel and his dog around in their kayak, a common ritual for these two when at the lake. The light was so gorgeous behind the weeping willows that I almost missed all of the wildlife swimming and taking flight around me. What an amazing experience.
