When Thomas & Thomas joined forces with The Willow Room Salon, I knew it was an amazing business move. What I didn’t realize was the kind of support, friendship and community that we would be getting along with it. When they asked me to join them on a road trip to Hello Sunshine x Together Live, it was a no brainer… I was in. I’m pretty much always in for a road trip, but when Reese Witherspoon‘s Hello Sunshine puts on a woman driven event like this near you… you hit the road! The trip there was filled with a smorgasbord of Tupac, Dre, Wilson-Phillips and S.W.V. Very unprofessional singing was not in short supply. It’s amazing how we all managed to learn every word to every song in the 80s/90s by re-winding the tape and replaying it second by second about a zillion times. You know you did it. If you didn’t know all the words to “Ice, Ice, Baby” when that thing came out… you were outcast. After arriving in Ann Arbor, we checked out the crib and got ready to head out on the town. We did a little shopping, grabbed a bite to eat (where we unexpectedly had to cook our own vegetables) and headed to the show. Our seats were amazing. In fact, it was difficult to keep myself from jumping up on stage and hugging each one of them after they spoke, but you know… I kept my cool. I’ll fan-girl another time. Some of the amazing women that spoke at the event included…
- Glennon Doyle (Author, activist)
- Abby Wambach (Olympic soccer player)
- MILCK (Singer/songwriter, artist)
- Priya Parker (Founder of Thrive Labs)
- Cameron Esposito (Standup comic, writer)
- Jillian Mercado (model/activist)
- Noor Tagouri (journalist)
I could go on and on about each and every one of them. I could tell you about the incredible obstacles they overcame, how much each one of them moved us, motivated us, inspired us and how one of them had us laughing so hard I almost peed a little (nope, not ashamed… I said almost). But… all I’m going to tell you is… grab your best girls and go see the show. Werd to your Mother.
