You heard me right, Cleveland videographer Thomas & Thomas…
This past week I travelled to Lansing, Michigan to work with the incredibly talented, magnificent, super sweet Jackie Palmer. I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in East Lansing or maybe I was in Lansing?? Well, I don’t know, but there was a fabulous shopping area right across the street.
Being used to a 3-year-old who hasn’t slept through the night since birth, I was already feeling chipper with my quiet night of sleep, the sweetest Marriott staff and a Starbucks right in the hotel!!! They didn’t have my Matcha green tea, but I suppose we will let that one slide.
Jackie met me at the hotel to start developing the concepts for our videos. I loved her right away. First of all, She loves Guster who is one of my all time FAVORITE bands. She was slightly closer to them than I was being that she dated one of their managers and I was a just a crazed fangirl. Secondly, she not only took a huge chance to pursue something that she loves, but she supported her husband for years while he did the same.
We are firm believers that life is a gift. EVER SINGLE DAY IS A GIFT. You spend about 30% of your awake hours at work and that’s if you live to the average person’s life expectancy. (It’s a gift!) Think about it…. Started work somewhere around 18ish…. retire somewhere around 60ish (if you are lucky). That’s 40ish years you can either be following your dreams or dreading Monday at the beginning of the weekend. If you are the latter, it’s NEVER too late.
For the last (almost) decade, I have been able to work beside my best friend. Through the ups and downs, I have appreciated every moment. It got us to where we are now. This year, we are building the studio of our dreams, getting involved with more designers and fashion and getting more heavily involved with Philanthropy. I could not be happier. BUT… I still felt like something was missing. This is it. This is what I was missing.
Later that day, we met up with Ellery. If you are looking for a model, this girl is it. You didn’t have to direct her. She just moved. Her personality shines through your camera without saying a word. It’s every photographer/videographer’s dream. The three of us had a blast. Jackie gave me some amazing direction and about a zillion helpful tricks that I will forever use in my pursuit for greatness.
As I shot the first video, my excitement grew. I knew nothing was ever going to be quite the same. (Dress by Chic Wish)
We shot the New Blues video the same day. I have to say, those are the greatest jeans ever. Revice Denim took us back into another time. Ellery‘s dance moves took us to a whole new level. It’s moments like these I wish I had an itty bitty waist so I could cram into those things and strut my stuff like she did. THE MUSIC (and dance moves) can absolutely make a video. Ellery put on a song with a serious beat and she let herself go wild. It was a blast.
When the afternoon was finished, Jackie and I said our goodbyes to the spunky Ellery (single tear, miss her already!) and headed back to the Marriott for editing. Cutting… OH MY GOODNESS. This is where the patience comes in. Cut, Cut, Cut. You don’t want to shoot too little, but if you go crazy… it will be hours upon hours more cutting. Coffee, food, more cutting, editing… AND SLEEP! Yes… midnight to 7am- BEST. SLEEP. EVER.
Thank you once again, Marriott. Morning coffee at the local lobby Starbucks and edit, edit, edit! All day and evening. AND….. BOOOOM, video #2 finished around 10pm (made for Instagram). I also tweaked it a little tonight. 🙂
Just wait and see what is in the works. We are just getting started. 😉 Thomas & Thomas… Cleveland videographer.
